The solar system is home to millions of asteroids. Each year, thousands of meteorites that weigh around a pound land on Earth. They are usually invisible because they fall in uninhabited forests and the ocean. In 2004, however, scientists discovered the Apophis, a hazardous asteroid in space that weighed more than 20-million-tons. According to the first observations, Apophis has a 2.7% chance of striking Earth in 2029, and it could cause widespread destruction several hundred kilometers away from its impact site. What can we do to stop it from hitting the planet in the future?
